![]() Like, if my husband, who I loved, was cheating on me from nearly the start of our marriage and I essentially couldn’t leave, I would absolutely be cheating on him too!! And I don’t think those two things would be morally equivalent to one another. I don’t defend her having had affairs with married guys or the behaviour she exhibited in some of them as you point out, but as for her having affairs in general, I don’t really think that that had anywhere near the impact on the dissolution of the marriage that Charles’ affair did, given that that was the one that’s kickstarted it all. I did find that they kept trying to sell the whole ‘Diana is a paranoid, insecure, vengeful ex’ narrative without reinforcing for the audience that she had plenty of reason to be that way (particularly the paranoia). If just the Queen had that attitude it would kind of make sense since Charles is her son but for the show to endorse that narrative sort of reads like an invalidation of everything Diana went through in the lead up to her deciding to do that interview. That’s not really the point of the post…? The point is that the show doesn’t really call out Charles this season and makes it appear as if Diana is pretty much in the wrong for doing her BBC interview while ignoring the context that led up to her doing it. She didn’t deserve the torture of being with a man who didn’t want her, and I don’t think she was mature enough (in age and experience) to understand that there was better and she deserved it. I wish Diana would have lived longer, I think in time she would have come to understand how they just weren’t a good fit once she was able to settle into a (public) relationship with someone who WANTED to be with her. I’m happy that he and Camilla got to marry and be with one another (though I think it’s a situation where Charles loved/loves Camila more than she loves him, but that’s ok and refreshing to see and probably one of the reasons he LIKED her too: she wasn’t as pitiful as Diana (not that Diana didn’t rightfully have things to be pitiful about but desperation is never sexy). I didn’t understand how insufferable it had to be for Charles too. Back then, I was much more sympathetic to Diana (I was also a child). They each did a tremendous amount amount of good for others but brought out the worst in each other. Both were fundamentally decent people married to the wrong person. Both Charles and Diana were full of self-pity and felt misunderstood by those close to them. Charles was indulged from childhood but not loved as he needed to be and it created a man used to having his every minor need attended to by others. She was manipulative of everyone emotionally and attention-seeking, creating dramas. She was emotionally immature, fell-out with people, including her mother, sister, brother, grandmother, Sarah Ferguson and close friends and would completely cut them out of her life with no explanation for long periods and then suddenly be best friends again. Diana had a string of relationships- James Hewitt, James Gilbey, Oliver Hoare (who she then harassed with thousands of phone calls to his house and wife for months when he broke up with her), one of her security staff, Will Carling, Haznat Khan to name just a handful. ![]() He was back with Camilla within three years physically, and emotionally never broke up with her. He was pressured by his family to marry her and they should never have married. If you'd like to help contribute to the wiki, send us a message!Ĭharles and Diana were as bad as each other.
